I am sure someone is asking. What? Each time you start your computer
it tries to accomodate your preferences by loading parts of the programs
that you use the most into cached memory.
Sounds great doesn't it. But
what really happens is when you run a program on your computer it makes
a reference to the files needed to have that program easily accessible
to you. It stores these start files on your computer. The next time you
access that program it should open faster by the nature of this procedure.
But if you never open this file again it is still loaded into cache just
in case you decide to open it again. After a while there is tons of information
loaded into cache and the loading of this cache causes your computer to
take longer to start.
Once your computer is started this cache is not a problem as it is only
referenced when you start a program that is stored there. How do you fix
it? One way is to empty your Prefetch folder. This folder is located in
the Windows folder. It is ok to delete everything in this folder as the
next time that Windows starts it will load a current set of information
for your recently accessed programs. The first time you restart your computer
after doing this procedure it will load a little slower. But if you shut
down and restart it again it will reload faster. There are a few more steps
a computer technician can perform that will help to improve the start performance
of your computer so if you follw all the procedures outlined by this series
then you should take your computer to a specialist. Also it shouldn't take
them as long to fix or repair your computer as it will be in a condition
where they wont have to perform all the performance procedures that you
have. Make sure to take them a list of the things that you have done to
help them with pinpointing the porblem. This lesson has shown you how to
relieve the congestion in your start profile.
